San Juan River Fishing Reports
August is here, School is starting
Hey, mom’s and dad’s; School is starting soon but it’s not too late to take the kids fishing before they have to hit the books. July and the start of August had some very warm weather, in the upper 90’s every day. We did have some rain this weekend which was a welcome relief. We…
Weather or not! Fishing still goes on.
July fishing has been toasty warm to downright hot, weatherwise. Temperatures are in the upper 90’s most days. Olive and gray midges and red larva are working in the quality waters. Orange eggs, copper johns and pheasant tails are being used below the special waters. Overall the fishing is good.
WEATHER IS HOT AND FISHING IS GOOD
The water level is at 1,000 cfs and they are planning to drop it to 600cfs for one day only starting at 1:00 a.m. tonight, bringing it back up to 1,000 at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. The fish may be a little squirrely for a day or two then settle down again. Fishing remains good using…
July Is Here But No Ants Yet
Our guides are really recommending the lower river drift. PMD’s, Cicada’s and a few stone flies are around. Although, it requires a drift boat to fish the lower San Juan River, it is really a good trip. It is all private land so no wading is allowed. The Quality Water is still fishing well with…
Lower River Fishing is Great
Mark caught this beautiful Rainbow on the lower portion of the San Juan River. Fishing was great with hatches of caddis and PMD’s. With the rain we had a few days ago, some ants were spotted on the river. The ant hatch is coming just as soon as we get a good rain. If you…
Lower River Fishing is starting to heat up
The river is back to about 500 CFS but increasing to 600 CFS tonight. The lower river is starting to fish well. They have seen cicadas and have had some success with midges and baetis dry fly fishing. The upper river is still fishing good with the usual suspects of larva and eggs. The…

Flows were at 3000 cfs. Sage…
High Water Fishing Has Been Incredible!
Even the kids are having a blast and catching fish! Great job. Alas, the high water is coming to an end. Water level should be at 500cfs by Saturday. Fishing should still be hot for the next few weeks. San Juan worms, eggs, red and orange larva are still working well. There is still time…
