Early November 2026 Flooding Update

we're ok! River's still muddy

Current Conditions

It's wild to think that last week it was the storm of the century, but the one that hit this past weekend was even bigger! We're still fine here at the lodge and open for business. The lake continues to fill up, giving us more water for a strong 2027 fishing season. We're hoping good snowfall this winter sets up conditions for the Bureau of Reclamation to release high water during the spring runoff, so we can wash out some of the sand that's settled into the lower stretches of water we fish. For now, though, flood water continues to enter the lake and make it muddy, which is causing the water coming out of the dam to also be muddy. There's still just about an inch of visibility, and catching fish remains quite difficult. We're hopeful things will settle in the coming weeks and the fishing will pick back up. The fish are doing OK. They rely on scent and sensation in these circumstances, so it's just really hard to get them to see and eat a fly. When things clear up, large, high-vis patterns will be the ticket. We'll keep you updated!

The Trout Are OK!

We're happy to report that New Mexico Game and Fish has been monitoring the river conditions, and despite some really off-color water, the fish are doing just fine. The agency evaluated many factors, including water temperature, dissolved oxygen, total dissolved solids, salinity, nitrates, etc., and found that all are essentially in a healthy range for trout. We just need the rains to subside to allow the water to settle.

Working With Our Impacted Guests

We continue reaching out to guests who are scheduled to visit us in the next couple of weeks to reschedule with no penalty.
