San Juan River Fishing Report & News
From Our Guides: The Weekly San Juan River Fishing Report Video for September 14th, 2024
Here is our Weekly San Juan River Fly Fishing Report from Fisheads San Juan River Lodge Reported by Aaron Silva, Fly Fishing Guide
Water flows have increased to 800 cfs. This change in flow has brought river debris, so keeping your flies clean is crucial. As Aaron demonstrated using the “San Juan slap” technique, is one of the most important tips for this week. Another key point due to the flow changes is that fish may be slightly displaced from your favorite holes, so you may need to move around to find them. Midge patterns in black and red, such as Tav’s Big Mac, are still effective in the quality waters, beatis activity has slowed down this week in this section but picks up the further you move down river. The midsection of the river, commonly known as “bait water,” is performing well with larger flies such as egg patterns, pheasant tails, and leeches. The lower river is hit or miss due to the flow changes; however, if you find yourself down there, try using dries and larger flies such as ants and even hoppers.
We hope to see you out there this fall season!
