From Our Guides: The Weekly San Juan River Fishing Report Video for June 6th, 2024

(Recorded June 6th, posted June 7th) The official June 6th Weekly San Juan River Fly Fishing Report from the guides of Fisheads San Juan River Lodge. Report given by Aaron Silva, Fly Fishing Guide. We have a heat wave moving through the area, and it’s supposed to last a few more days. Be sure to drink plenty of water and wear lots of sun protection. Nonetheless, the fishing continues to be really good. Starting the day with a leech or egg + a midge has been really productive. Size 22 and 24 midge patterns in brown, black, olive, red, and cream continue to work well. Size 22 and 24 Big Macs and Mono Midges have been my patterns of choice. If the fish aren’t biting these in the morning, try adjusting the depth that you’re fishing. It’s been a lot more about getting the flies in front of the fish’s face rather than the exact right color. In the afternoon, we’re still seeing subsurface Baetis activity and have been fishing with gray and chocolate emergers. We reported olive Baetis a few weeks ago, but the fish seem to be off of these right now. A CDC RS2 and Fluff Baetis in size 22 have been my go-to. Dry fly fishing on the lower has been excellent and hit or miss up in the quality waters section. We hope to see you out here!
