The official May 23rd Weekly San Juan River Fly Fishing Report from the guides of Fisheads San Juan River Lodge. Report given by Stephen Souva, Fly Fishing Guide. Fishing has remained great. The water is getting clearer, and we are starting to do lots of sight fishing. Visibility is around 5 feet. The trout are still keying in on midges in the morning, especially when fished close to the bottom. Size 22 and 24 midge patterns in brown, black, olive, red, and cream have all worked well. In the afternoon, we’re seeing Baetis activity and have been fishing with gray, chocolate, and olive Baetis emergers. Hope to see you out here!
