San Juan River Fishing Report & News
From Our Guides: The Weekly San Juan River Fishing Report Video for May 1st, 2024
Welcome to the first of Fisheads’ weekly video fishing reports. The fly fishing this past week has been excellent! Our guides have come off the river every day reporting successful days. The weather has mostly been sunny with highs in the 70s, and the water is getting clearer by the day. Water visibility is about 4 to 5 feet, with flows around ~370 cfs. We’re still seeing the trout take flies like eggs, midge larva, and leeches in the early morning. Later in the morning, we’ve been fishing midge pupa and emergers in black, gray, and olive. We’re also seeing Baetis hatches after lunch, especially on cloudy days. Gray and chocolate emerger patterns have been particularly effective. We have flies tied by our guides for sale in the shop. Come pay us a visit! We offer the best deals on the river for all-inclusive packages that include dining and memorable days on the water with our Orvis-endorsed guides. See you out here!
