San Juan River Fishing Report & News
The San Juan River is at 1740cfs but the fish are still here. The water visibility is good, not totally clear but we have definitely seen it a lot worse. Fishing is good. The impact of the high water on wade fishing is a little different. The best places to wade are Texas hole to Cable hole. At higher water there are a lot of fish hugging the shoreline so you don’t have to go into the water very far.
Fishing for trout in the quality water was good using red and crème midge larva fly patterns, size 22 black midge clusters, dark color zebra midges and crystal flash size 24 and 26. Further downstream trout fishing was good using baetis patterns such as root beers and RS2s. With the high water flows anglers fishing with larger larvae patterns, size 18, are having success.
