San Juan River Fishing Report & News
San Juan River Fishing Report for Mid-October
Fishead (fish-head) n. A person who spends all their time thinking about, dreaming about, or in the pursuit of fish.
Over the next week the San Juan River will fish great. Layer properly for the cold, our mornings are cold, around 35 degrees. The fish are eating heavily in and the fishing pressure is high. Many fish over 20 inches have been caught by anglers throughout the past week. Over the next week we will see the river flow remain around 403 cfs.
The water is very clear. The wading is excellent right now. The upper part of the San Juan River is fishing good, small black midges 24 or 26, the trout are eating well through the morning. Foam wing RS2 in chocolate and grey have been working well.
Dry fly fishing is happening now also. Look for the rising fish and match up the bug on the water and then cast to the rise. Black ants or foam bugs can be used as indicators for the tiny dry flies. BWO and Adam’s Parachutes have been working well in size 22 or 24.
We have been having some weather lately, so dress accordingly. The mornings have been cold, down to freezing some nights. Precipitation has been tricky, with cloudy days followed by sunny days with rain falling intermittently during the day. The point here is be prepared for whatever weather mother nature throws at you.
Tight lines everyone, have a great October and come to Fisheads of the San Juan next time you #fishthejuan.
