San Juan River Fishing Report

Once again we are putting up some interesting information about the fishing on the San Juan River.

Dry fly fishing is coming off daily.  Despite the high temperatures many anglers are catching fish that are larger than normal.  We here at Fisheads have had guides pull in 22 inch rainbows to 25 inch rainbows almost daily.  The red larva are working throughout the Quality Waters.  Many large trout have been taken using foam Hog Hoppers and a dry trailer.  Since the declining flow has stopped declining we should be in for a great August.  Clear water and great weather will provide anglers with optimal trout stalking conditions.

The upcoming month we will be welcoming the Texas Hole Charity to the San Juan River for their annual fly fishing adventure with veterans.  Later in August the By-Fly Tournament will happening in the Quality Waters as well.  So make yourself some plans and come out and visit us at Fisheads of the San Juan River.

Over the last week of July the San Juan River will be fantastic. The cloudy days will provide some much needed relief from the sun. The return to normal flow rates pulled the trout back in to the regular holding spots. Over the next week we will see the river flow remain around 700 cfs.red annelid

The water is very clear. The wading is excellent right now and will continue to get better as the settling of silt and debris continues. The trout are eating annelids and chocolate foam wings regularly. Use a black crystal wing emerger or a small black midge pattern when the first two stop working. Go back to light weight with the slower flow rate, but still start at the bottom. Dry fly fishing is great right now also. Hoppers with droppers are working well.

Come on out to the river and let us take you fishing.
