San Juan River Fishing Report & News
Most of the rain New Mexico is experiencing, has not been in our area. The San Juan River is flowing at 350 which is a little low for this time of year, but they are trying to recover the water level in Navajo Reservoir. But the water is clear and fishing has been “the best”.
The Midge hatch in the upper river is as good as it gets, clusters as big as hockey pucks. Fish were a little picky, maybe my clusters weren’t big enough. But lots of fat fish feeding on the surface, really fun. In the lower river the Beatis are back. Look for them around noon, fish a Johnny Flash or Foam Wing RS-2. Sight fish a short rig, again really fun, great for those fish eating emergers just beneath the surface.
